With the reconstruction under the project "Improvement and promotion of leading tourist attractions in Yambol" between 2014-2015, Bezisten became a modern cultural and information centre, which attractively presents the cultural and historical heritage of the Yambol region.
The building is thematically arranged into three levels - past, present and future.
The main floor "Present" is a multipurpose hall for contemporary art, concerts, performances, symposia, conferences, etc., where also the exhibition of the Art Gallery "George Papazov" Yambol is situated.
On the information terminals located near entrances, you will find historic and topical information for the sites "Bezisten" and Thracian ancient city Kabyle, photos, exhibitions, services, cultural calendar for festivals, events, information on public transportation.
The main floor leads to the level of the future, which is a glass gallery over the ground floor, from where a panoramic view opens to the domes of Bezisten and the stage, located in the eastern part of the hall. The wonderful acoustics of the building determines its use as an arena of various musical and theatrical events, as well as for business forums.
If you enter the basement of the building, you will find "the past". It is mysterious, filled with familiar faces and unfamiliar stories. The historical past of the city and the region is presented via advanced interactive system that introduces the visitor into a kind of a "Tunnel of Time". It consists of four elements: Celebrities, Buildings and views, Historical events and Tourist routes. From antiquity to the present day 25 personalities tell stories about themselves and the times in which they lived. Some are Cybele, Demosthenes, Khan Tervel, Khan Krum, Anna Comnena, Mr. Shishman, Radi Kolesov, George Drazhev, Steliana Paraskevova Stoyan Mitev, Georgi Sheytanov, academician professor Dr. Ivan Gazdov, Encho Keryazov and others. Museums and castles, churches, public buildings and parks become alive, visualized in 3D-format. In the module Historical events one can see and hear stories about Yambol theatre, museology, Yambol zeppelin, the horse tram, regiments of Yambol, freemasonry, anarchism, sporting glory etc. Through audio-video and 3D mapping, eleven tourist routes related to the archaeological heritage, artists and museums of Yambol, ethnographic heritage etc. are presented.
In the same hall Yambol Regional Historical Museum has arranged the exhibition "Glimpses of Yambol," which is a look at the customs and traditions of people from Yambol in the end of the 19th century and the first decades of the 20th century – a period of time in which European fashion trends invade and domineer the lives of our fellow citizens.
There are expositions of the Yambol Regional Historical Museum in the south gallery of the underground level, namely:
- “Archaeology and archaeological wealth of Yambol region” where very interesting pottery and luxury objects of gold, silver and glass from the end of VII millennium BC to the VI century AD are presented.
- “Yambol mummers” - masks, costumes and accessories, representing mummers’ dance and the history of the masquerade festival "Kukerlandia".
Extremely rare icons and church plates from the collections of the Art Gallery "George Papazov" – Yambol are exhibited in the north gallery of the underground level.
